The Bloomer Blackhawks boys basketball team beat the Spooner Rails at home on Thursday, Jan. 9, 43–28. The Rails only shot 22 percent on 2-point field goals and 13 percent on 3-point field goals, while the Blackhawks shot 31 percent and 21 percent respectively.

The Blackhawks outscored Spooner 21-12 in the first half and 22-16 in the second half. Both teams struggled getting 3-point shots to drop through the hoop. Spooner made just three out of 23 attempted 3-pointers while Bloomer only did slightly better making four out 19 attempts. Senior Austin Thur made all four of Bloomer’s three pointers and also went four for four at the free throw line. Thur was the games high scorer for both teams with 18 points, followed by Spooner’s Caleb Potaczek with 14 and Bloomer senior Carter Rubenzer with 12 points. Senior Leif Everson scored six points for Bloomer, junior Charlie Herrick got four points, sophomore Connor Crane got 2 and senior Fritz Ullom got one point.

Bloomer (4-2, 5-2) played Thorp at home on Monday, Jan. 13, and play at Ladysmith (4-2, 6-2) on Tuesday, Jan. 14 and are at home against Colfax on Saturday, Jan. 18.
