The Bloomer Blackhawks finished their regular season football games with a 35–0 victory over Heart O’ North conference newcomers Cameron Comets.
The Blackhawks have scored first in every game they’ve played this year and Friday night was no exception. This week it was senior Leif Iverson who crossed the goal line for the first touchdown of the game on a 16 yard run. Iverson also ran in the 2-point conversion and the Blackhawks led 8–0.
Bloomer would score two more times in the first quarter. The second touchdown came when senior Cal Lueck returned a fumble 74 yards. The point after kick was no good and Bloomer led 14–0.
Still in the first quarter, senior Isaiah LaGesse ran the ball 11 yards for the third TD of the game for the Blackhawks. The point after was no good and Bloomer led 20–0 going into the second quarter.
Senior Carter Rubenzer ran the ball in from 32 yards out and LaGesse kicked the point after to make it 27–0.
The final score of the half and the game came when senior Colton Buchli ran the ball 34 yards for a touchdown. Iverson ran in the 2-point conversion and Bloomer led 35–0 at the half.
Neither team scored in the second half of the game.
Bloomer moved the ball a total of 257 yards in only 30 plays while the Comets moved it 163 yards in 65 plays. The Blackhawks lost one fumble and Cameron lost one fumble and threw one interception.
This week Bloomer ran the ball for 194 yards and passed for 63 yards finding more success rushing than throwing this week. Cameron passed for 48 yards and rushed for 115 yards.
Bloomer had only one penalty for 5 yards and Cameron had four for 30 yards.
Senior quarterback Isaiah LaGesse connected with four different receivers for seven receptions out of 10 attempts. Rubenzer caught two passes for 22 yards; Iverson caught three passes for 20 yards; junior Charlie Herrick caught once for 18 yards; and Buchli caught one pass for 3 yards.
On the ground, Buchli lead the team with three carries for 50 yards and one touchdown; Rubenzer ran the ball three times for 38 yards and one TD; junior Ethan Rothbauer ran the ball once for 27 yards; Iverson ran three times for 24 yards and a TD; LaGesse ran the ball once for 11 yards and a TD; sophomore Jack Strand ran the ball once for 11 yards; junior Jay Rider ran once for 4 yards; sophomore Marcus Harelstad ran the ball twice for 2 yards; and at least three other players carried the ball for a total of 27 yards.
The #3 seed Blackhawks(7-2) will take on #6 Spencer/Columbus Catholic at home on Friday night, Oct. 25 in first round WIAA D5 football playoff action.
