The 2021 Heart O’ North conference champion Bloomer Blackhawks softball team added two non-conference wins to their record last week. Monday, June 7, the Ladyhawks beat Grantsburg, 13-2, at home. Tuesday, June 1, they shut out Thorp 12-0 on the road. On Monday, June 14, #1 Bloomer played #8 Stanley-Boyd at home in WIAA Div. 3 Regional action.

Monday v.s. Grantsburg

The Bloomer Blackhawks defeated Grantsburg 13-2 on Monday thanks to seven runs in the fifth inning. The Blackhawks offense in the inning was led by Ryanna Keller, Mckenna Hilger, Tori Jenneman, Kylee Sedlacek, and Calley Olson, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Bloomer was the first to score on Monday, putting three runs on the board in the bottom of the third inning. Grantsburg got on the board in the next inning with two runs, but Bloomer answered back by adding three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to increase its lead to 4-2. The Blackhawks held Grantsburg scoreless in the top of the fifth before exploding in the bottom of the inning to finish the game in five innings.

Senior Emily Kuehl started off the inning for Bloomer with a line drive single to center field. Sophomore Delaney Zwiefelhofer followed suit with her own line drive single to center. Sophomor Laikyn Maidment then bunted into a fielder’s choice that got no runners out and the bases were loaded with sophomore RyAnna Keller coming to the plate. Keller grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored Kuehl and saw Maidment get out advancing to second. Next up, sophomore Mckenna Hilger watched the first pitch go by and Keller stole second. Hilger hit a hard ground ball on the next pitch that send Zwiefelhofer home and Keller to third. Hilger reached first on an error by the shortstop. Hilger stole second before the next batter struck out. With two outs, runners at second and third and Bloomer leading 8-2, sophomore Tori Jenneman hit a ground ball and reached on an error while Keller scored and Hilger advanced to third. Senior Kylee Sedlacek stepped to the plate and watched the first ball go by before smacking a line drive single to left field that scored Hilger and advanced Jenneman to second to make it 10-2. With runners at first and second and two outs, junior Calley Olson stepped up to the plate. Olson watched two balls and a strike go by before she found the pitch she wanted and belted a home run line drive to center field, scoring three runs and ending the game on the 10 run rule with a score of 13-2.

Emily Kuehl was credited with the victory for Bloomer. Kuehl allowed two hits and two runs over four innings, striking out five and walking one. Olson threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Kuehl led Bloomer Blackhawks with two hits in three at bats.

Tuesday In Thorp

The Bloomer Blackhawks made short work of it again on Tuesday in Thorp, defeating Thorp 12-0 in five innings as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Olson induced a groundout from Izzy Haas to finish off the game.

Olson led the Blackhawks to victory by driving in five runs. She went 2-for-2 at the plate. Olson drove in runs on a home run in the first and a home run in the second.

Olson’s two run homer in the first got Bloomer on the board right away.

Bloomer put up four runs in both the second and the fourth inning.

With two outs and nobody on, sophomore Karley Rada hit a line drive to right field to get on base. Jennneman then grounded into a fielder’s choice that saw her make it to first and Rada safe at second. Next up, Sedlacek singled on a line drive to center field and Rada scored and Jenneman advanced to second to bring up Olson. After watching the first ball go by, Olson homered on a fly ball to left field to score three runs.

In the fourth inning, Jenneman, Zwiefelhofer, and Hilger all moved runners across the plate.

To start the scoring in the fourth inning, Jenneman doubled on a line drive to center to score Rada from second base. Then with the bases loaded Zwiefelhofer singled on a hard ground ball to left field that scored two runs. The final run of the inning came when Hilger singled with the bases loaded to drive in a run.

Bloomer added two more runs in the top of the fifth when Emily Kuehl tripled on a line drive to right field with runners at first and second who both scored to make it 12-0.

One bright spot for Thorp was a single by Jolene Windl in the third inning.

Kuehl was credited with the victory for the Blackhawks. The pitcher allowed two hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out three and walking one. Olson threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Bloomer tallied two home runs on the day. Olson went yard in the first and second innings.

The Blackhawks scattered 11 hits in the game. Sedlacek, Zwiefelhofer, and Olson each collected multiple hits. Sedlacek led Bloomer with three hits in four at bats.
