John Plaza, of Chetek, was somewhat surprised by the fish dangling off of his hook last week while panfishing on Thursday, Aug. 23—a white bass. Pictured above, is the hand-sized white bass Plaza caught on Pokegama Lake during a fishing outing last week. White bass are an invasive species to the Chetek Chain of Lakes; however, this was the third white bass that Plaza has caught in the past few years. “I never throw back the white bass due to them being invasive species; we really don’t want them in our lake system. All of the white bass over the years have been caught on Pokegama. I have caught a total of three white bass and my son-in-law has caught one,” Plaza stated.
