An Almena woman is free on $1,000 signature bond pending a plea hearing Jan. 25, 2023, in connection with a charge of operating while under the influence with a minor child as a passenger, Barron County Circuit Court records said.
A complaint filed Dec. 27 identifies the defendant as Sauna R. Wallace, 52, 404 Garfield St., Unit 1, Almena.
The complaint said someone called 911 from the Holiday gas station in Almena shortly after 10 p.m. on June 18, 2022, to report an intoxicated woman in a Ford Edge vehicle.
A Turtle Lake officer went to the location and found the vehicle. The driver, later identified as the defendant, had three passengers, including a juvenile female in the front seat and two juvenile males in back. The estimated ages were between 5 and 7.
There was a strong alcohol odor in the vehicle. The defendant failed a field sobriety test and was arrested. She allegedly agreed to provide a blood sample. On Sept. 4, 2022, the state Hygiene Lab informed the Turtle Lake Police Department that the sample had a blood alcohol content of .272, nearly four times the state’s legal threshold of intoxication (.08).
