Unidentified human remains were found on a rural Dallas property midday Sunday, Dec. 3, after a man’s dog apparently brought home a fragment of a human skull, according to Barron County reports.
The man in the 1300 block of 10th Avenue, between Barron and Hillsdale, called police at 12:30 p.m. to report he found a human skull in his driveway. He said he thought his dog had dug it up.
“A search of a wooded area near the house was conducted and the skeletal remains of a body were discovered,” said Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald in a press release Monday, Dec. 4.
The identity of the remains was not apparent.
In total, six sheriff’s deputies, Fitzgerald and the Barron County medical examiner responded. The state crime lab was contacted and the Wisconsin State Patrol was also called in to survey the scene. The Midwest Medical Examiner’s office in Ramsey, Minn., is also investigating.
“All are assisting with the case to determine more information on if it is a male or female, how long it has been there and any other way to determine the identification of the remains,” Fitzgerald said.
Records were checked for missing person cases from the past five years.
Barron County has no missing person cases, Fitzgerald noted, and neighboring counties were contacted about their missing person cases.
