School District of Bloomer superintendent Brian Misfeldt introduced the new staff members of the district in a press release Thursday, Aug. 22.
Middle School Art
Hannah Gustison is the new art teacher at the Bloomer Middle School. Hannah received her BA in Art History from the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities as well as her masters in Art Education. She discovered her love for education while working in the education department at the Weisman Art Museum. Since then, Hannah has worked as a middle and high school teacher at Open World Learning in St. Paul, Minn. and Cadott Jr/Sr High School. When Hannah isn’t teaching, she enjoys a good book, working on her own art projects and most of all spending quality time with her two beagles, Stella and Pepper.
Amy Verdegan is a new Spanish teacher at Bloomer High School and Middle School. Amy received her BA from UWEC with a minor in Latin American Studies. Amy is a first-year teacher who has studied abroad and taught English in a few different Spanish-speaking countries. She is looking forward to sharing her love of the Spanish language and culture. Amy enjoys traveling, being on the water and spending time with her family and friends.
Casey Otto is the new 3rd Grade Teacher in the Bloomer School District. Casey received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin – Stout and his Masters from Marion University. Prior to coming to Bloomer Casey taught for 14 years in the Eau Claire Area School District. When Casey is not at school he enjoys spending time with his family, hunting, fishing and doing construction projects.
Chemistry and Physics
Garrett Sarauer is the Chemistry and Physics teacher at the high school in Bloomer. Garrett received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. A third year teacher, Garrett is excited to come back to the area in which he grew up in. When not in the classroom, you can expect him to be involved with the community, being with friends and family, or out in the woods.
Sixth Grade Science
Kelsie Dommer is the new 6th grade science teacher at the Bloomer Middle School. Kelsie received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She has spent the last five years teaching Biology and Chemistry in the School District of Shell Lake. In her free time, Kelsie enjoys cheering on the Packers and Badgers. She also enjoys making memories with her friends and family, especially her husband Matt and their one-year-old son, Remy.
Special Education – High School
Cecil Philson is the new Special Education teacher at Bloomer High School. Cecil graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire this past May. He was a four year starter with the UWEC wrestling team and will be joining the Bloomer wrestling staff. In his free time Cecil enjoys watching the Packers, spending some time outdoors with friends and family, as well as playing some video games.
First Grade Teacher
Kristine Mickelson is the new first grade teacher at Bloomer Elementary School. She attended Southwest MN State University in Marshall, MN where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education and a minor in special education. Prior to coming to Bloomer, Kristine taught 3-year-old, 4-year-old and PreKindergarten classes in Mason City, Iowa for five years and then taught 4K at St. Charles in Chippewa Falls for three years after moving to the Eau Claire area. Kritine enjoys spending time with her husband, Tyler and sons, Lincoln and Charlie playing ball, watching movies and playing at parks. In her free time she also enjoys reading and baking cookies.
Seventh Grade Science Teacher
Samantha Rubenzer is the new 7th Grade Science Teacher at Bloomer Middle School. Originally from California, Samantha earned a Bachelor’s degree from California State University, Fresno and also holds a Master’s degree in Teaching. Since moving to the area in 2016, Samantha conducted her student teaching assignment at Bloomer Middle School, and was also employed as a district Substitute Teacher. In her free time Samantha enjoys spending time with her husband, Zach, and 4-year old son, Easton, traveling back home to visit family whenever possible, and going to sporting events with friends and family.
Family and Consumer Science
Alyson Zwiefelhofer is the new Family and Consumer Science Teacher at Bloomer High School and Middle School. Alyson earned a Bachelor’s Degree from UW-Stout. She spent the past 8 years teaching 6-12 grade FACS and Health in the Bruce School District. In her free time, Alyson enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, crafting and trying out new recipes.
