Blake Bichanich

Blake Michael Bichanich died unexpectedly on August 21, 2015, in his home in rural Augusta, Wisconsin, at age 56. He was born November 12, 1958, in Thorp, Wisconsin, to Paul and Phyllis (née Underberg) Bichanich. He grew up and attended school in Thorp and later moved to Lake Wissota and attended a private high school in Eau Claire. He studied art and architecture at various universities and graduated from the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities. After designing houses in the Twin Cities area, Blake started his own architecture company in 2001, specializing in luxury homes. One of his many projects was a natural history museum, which he designed to resemble a tree.

Jon F. Dallman, 77, died Sunday August 23, 2015 at Solvay Hospice House after a hard fought battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He will be missed beyond words.

Ardis "Tiny" Frenz

Ardis “Tiny” Frenz age 84 passed away on Friday, August 21, 2015 at Hetzel Care Center in Bloomer. She was born in New Auburn to Ira and Irene (Metcalf) Frank on November 18, 1930. She married Charles Frenz on November 14, 1953 and together they raised three daughters. Tiny was a daycare provider for most of her life and loved children. She was a great cook and master gardener. People would travel to her home to see her beautiful flowers. In her free time she enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with her family.

Vicki L. Vetterkind, age 54, passed away Friday, August 21, 2015 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire. She was born December 14, 1960 in Rockford Ill., to Gary and Joyce (Frank) Vetterkind. She worked at Nelson Filter for many years and enjoyed camping, sitting around the campfire, going on picnics, but mostly spending time with her family and being a very special aunt to her nieces and nephews.

Jerome J. Hurt

Jerome J. Hurt, age 76, passed away at his home on Sunday, August 16, 2015. He was born May 14, 1939 in Chippewa County to Walter and Delphine (Spaeth) Hurt. He married Theresa Gindt on April 25, 1959 in Edson, Wisconsin. Jerome worked as a farmer and owned his own salvage/recycling business. He spent countless hours teaching his children the fine art of hunting and fishing. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, playing cards, collecting classic country music and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Elsie “Grandma Great” M. Krueger, age 88, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Bloomer after a year long battle with cancer. She was born March 23, 1927 in the Town Tilden to Emil and Anna (Reischel) Loew. She married Allen Krueger on June 3, 1946 in Bloomer. Elsie was a domestic engineer and was an accomplished cook and baker, making wonderful wedding cakes and publishing a cook book. She enjoyed sewing, playing the organ and, visiting with friends and spending time with her family.

Eileen A. Henneman, age 82, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2015 at MCHS in Bloomer. She was born on September 10, 1932 in Rice Lake to Arthur and Agnes (Nelson) Schaaf. She married Kenneth Henneman on December 8, 1956 in Dallas, Wisc. She worked as a production worker for Mason Shoe and Nelson Filter and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bloomer. In her free time she enjoyed baking and cooking, shaking dice, going to the casino, playing tic and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandkids. Eileen was a caring and compassionate daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother providing a loving home for her family. She believed in hard work and truly cared about those closest to her; you were lucky to call her your friend. She lived a wonderful life and will be missed by many.

Donna Gress a native of Bloomer, Wisc., passed away Aug. 2 , 2015. She was born Nov. 25, 1931 to the late Alfred and Matilda Henneman and was the wife of the late Frederick J. Gress, who passed away in 2010. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Ewald.

Josephine A. (Meinen) Goettl passed away Saturday, August 8, 2015, at Wissota Health and Regional Vent Center in Chippewa Falls with her family at her side. She was born on June 13, 1920, to Louis and Mary (Riesterer) Meinen and grew up in Tilden. Josephine married Clifford Goettl on June 3, 1941, and together they farmed in rural Bloomer until retirement in 1980. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, PCCW, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. In retirement she volunteered with Triniteam and at Hetzel Care Center where she also served as a Eucharistic Minister. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and was an avid quilter.

Quincy R. Paskert, age 40, of Bloomer, formerly of Thorp, Wisc., joined his mother in Heavenly peace on Thursday, July 30, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, in Thorp. Rev. Janusz Kowalski will officiate and burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Jason Boyarski, Mike Boehlke, Billy Lobacz, Robbie Lobacz, Josh Paskert, Jake Paskert, Marty Rolfes and Kraig Lassig. Visitation will be held at Thorp Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 4, 2015 from 4-8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. rosary service, and again at the church, on Wednesday, from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Bernetta K. (Stoffel) Hable

Bernetta Kathryn (Stoffel) Hable died with her children by her side on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. She was born to Leo and Margaret (Steinmetz) Stoffel on October 7, 1930 and grew up in Bloomer, Wisconsin. She graduated from Bloomer High School in 1948 and attended nursing school in Wausau, Wisconsin. On August 21, 1952 Bernetta married her childhood sweetheart, Burton Hable, in Bloomer. The couple lived in Madison while Burton completed his senior year of college at the University of Wisconsin. A highlight of their first year of marriage was the trip to Pasadena, Cali., for the January 1, 1953 Rose Bowl when Burton was a safety for the UW football team. Burton accepted a teaching/coaching position at Madison West High School and they made Madison their home, spending summers in Bloomer as often as they could. Bernetta was the consummate mother and homemaker. She was a proud 52 year member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and an excellent Bridge player. She was delighted that she was able to pass the love-of-shopping gene to all of her female family members. Together, Burton and Bernetta raised seven children: Mary Kathryn (Garry) Acker of Eureka, Mo., Martha (Paul) Pratt of Powell, Ohio, Susan (Scott) Cole of Racine, Ben (Laurie) Hable of Eden Prairie, Minn., Fred (Renee) Hable of Madison, Chuck (Teri) Hable of Oshkosh and Christin (Dan) Filo of Naperville, Ill. She was blessed with 16 grandchildren: Betsy (Nick) Oksanen, Charlie Dvorak, Megan Acker, Sara (Evan) Bing, Amy and Brian Pratt, Laura and Andy Cole, Burton (Chloe), Robbie and Allie Hable, Adam, Jack and Britt Hable, and Alex and Austin Filo. Four great-grandchildren, Nora and Annika Oksanen and Miles and Baby (due in December) Bing, brought Bernetta special happiness in recent years. Bernetta is also survived by her brother-in-law, Robert Hable and his wife, Phyllis Whited. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Burton in 2004 and her sister-in-law Ruth Hable in 2010. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 5313 Flad Ave, Madison at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, with Monsignor Michael Burke presiding. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. A luncheon will follow. Bernetta will be buried on Thursday, August 6 following a graveside service in North Catholic Cemetery, Bloomer, Wisc. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bernetta’s name to St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com

Kathleen Kay Bitney, age 74, passed away at her home in Mount Dora, Fl., after a lengthy battle with cancer on Friday, June 26, 2015. She was born April 15, 1941 in Lake Geneva, Wisc., to Gerald and Mabel (Skaw) Keith and moved to Lake County in 1968. She came to Bloomer when her parents were both gone and lived with her half-sister Lucille (Vernon) Peterson and family until her marriage to Terry Bitney on August 26, 1958 in Brownsville, Tex., Kay enjoyed gardening, cooking new recipes, taking care of their special dogs and living in the warm weather of Florida with her husband. She worked at St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance in St. Paul Minn., and Orlando Fl.; the Bloomer Elementary School Office, and White Sands Nursery in Plymouth, Fl.

Helene Florence Marek, age 97, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2015 at the Country Terrace in Bloomer. She was born December 9, 1917 in Bloomer to Andrew and Hannah (Brown) Shopek. She attended school in Minneapolis Minn., and, at age 5, took dance lessons, performing in the “Kiddie Review” on the stage at the Orpheum Theater. At age 11, Helene’s mother passed away and she moved to Bloomer where she lived with Peder and Josephine Dahl. After graduating from Bloomer High School she moved to Minneapolis where she worked at Montgomery Wards in the mail room. On September 14, 1937, she married Vernon Marek at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Bloomer. She worked at Mid-Am Dairy, sang in the church choir for many years and was a past officer in the PCCW. On June 4, 1944, she and Lillian Kramschuster formed the Bloomer Women of the Moose, where she held many offices. She enjoyed ice skating, dancing, music, reading and most of all the Green Bay Packers.
